Powerful Israeli rabbi and powerful leader, Menachem Porush, had died at the age of 93. Porush served for more than 30 years in Israel's parliament. Porush also founded several religious education centers for ultra-Orthodox children. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has spoken about Porush in a very good way, saying he was "a dear, wise, and warm man" This affected the Middle East very much because he was such an adored man. Thousands attended a funeral Monday for Porush, who retired from politics in 1994.

Obviously this man was very adored. Losing him broke many hearts. He will always be with them. It really affected them though because he always brought such warm feelings to everyone and now that feeling is gone. He will be missed. "Porush, a widower, is survived two sons, two daughters and more than 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren."(AP)

The Arab-Israeli Conflict has been going on for a while now. The decision has come to splitting up the land. But there are some difficulties between the two. Israel claims ownership to two shrines in Palestinian territory. While the Palestinians want to create a new state with a different name, leaving the new future Israel undivided. There have also been demands for Israelis to stop building, which they have agreed to lull settlement building for 10 months. This is where US Secretary, Hilary Clinton steps in. Her plans are to mediate the two and gather them for peace talks to see a quick relosution both can agree on.

If a resolution could be found between the Palestinians and Israelis, it would be a great deal of help. First of all, solving this problem peacefully soon could stop a war from starting from already high tensions. The hatred between the two would lower. Also, with two different states no longer in conflict, it would be easier for the US to allie with them. In conclusion, sloving this problem will deminish the fight, leaving them both happy. And it would make it easier for the US to connect with the two.

"Saudi women to be allowed to argue cases in court"

On Sunday February 21st, 2010 Saudi Arabian woman protested about the way they were being treated. For the first time in history, Saudi Arabia has allowed women to argue cases in court. Woman are permitted to argue for cases such as divorce, child custody, and family-related cases. Currently, they are only allowed to work behind the scenes in government and court offices. Saudi Arabia having a system of male guardianship, forces them to be separate from males they are not related to.

This article is significant because it is showing that females are getting more respect in our world. Allowing woman into courthouses is a huge step for Saudi Arabia. Woman have a huge impact in every society. Without woman there will not be another generation. In the United States woman and men both have the same rights, in other societies they do not. Having one country take a step to giving women more right, will influence woman in other countries to speak out for their rights.

Mosab Hassan Yoself, who is 32, currently lives in California. He escaped his life in the West Banks in 2007. His memoir "Son of Hamas" will be published next week. His memoirs will give readers an inside look to what it was like being "one of Israel's most valued informants inside Hamas." Mosab Yoself's father was Sheikh Hassan Yousef, who was one of the founders of the Hamas. Yoself saved many people's lives while he worked with Israeli spies giving them important information about attacks. His memoirs tell of the events that come with being involved with Israel security agents and the dangers of the Hamas.

The fact that Yoself is releasing his memoir to the United States is an amazing thing. For one of the first times the United States citizens will get an inside look to the lives of those in Israel and how terrorism effects them everyday. Many people of the United States do not know much about terrorism besides the events of 9/11. "Son of Hamas" will give us a new was to learn about the events in the Middle East. Yoself has saved so many lives and it will be interesting to learn about his life in the West Banks.

Geneticist recently compared the genes of large dogs to small dogs, and their wild relatives. The middle east suggest that small domesticated dogs evolved from grey wolves. The study was led by evolutionary geneticist Melissa Gray of the University California, Los Angeles.Previous studies on the origins of the domestic dog have used mitochondrial DNA, which is passed on only through the mother. These suggest that the domesticated dogs we see today originated from animals that lived between 5,000 and 16,000 in East Asia. However, archaeologicists digging in Europe and the Middle East have found evidence that suggests domestic dogs were already around 31,000 years ago.

This article is significant because it tells how dogs have cchanged over the years. The Middle East believes small dogs descended from grey wolves. This shows that people in the middle east believe that small dogs descended from grey wolves.

    India, Pakistan Hold Formal Talks

India and Pakistan met on February 25 for formal talks. The two countries have not met since the siege on Mumbai in 2008. This meeting, according to officials, is hoped to be a step in restoring trust between the two nations. The meeting was between the Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and Pakistani Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir. The two met for more than three hours. The two sides agreed to keep in touch, even though both sides are mutually suspicious of each other. Rao told the Pakistan that it had not gone far enough to dismantle terror networks on its soil, nor did it bring those responsible for the Mumbai siege to justice. India blames the attacks on the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-i-Taiba. Rao gave Pakistan information on many suspected militants, including those linked to the Mumbai attacks. One suspect is an al-Qaeda affiliated suspect who has issued threats against India. Rao also provided Pakistan with the names of 10 Indian insurgents thought to be hiding in Pakistan. Pakistan discussed its concerns of India diverting water with construction of barrages and dams. Rao stated, “We went into today’s talks with an open mind, but firmly conscious of the trust deficit between the two countries.” “Our aims were modest. But the chemistry was good. The meeting was useful.”

This article affects the region in that these two nations have been at odds with each other for a long time, hopefully the talks between the two regions will have a positive affect on their relationship. The talks between India and Pakistan have been guided by the Obama administration. It is the hope of the United States that if India and Pakistan improve their relationship, it can improve the American military efforts in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The meeting could be a good start to making Afghanistan more stable because India and Pakistan are struggling for influence in Afghanistan. If the meeting turns out to be positive and they come to a mutual agreement, this could have a positive affect on many countries; including our own.

Scientist were tracing back to see where and what small domestic dogs evolved from. Scientist narrowed down their studies to one nuclear DNA gene. This gene was called IGF1. They found the gene wasn't in most large wild dogs except for grey wolves in the middle east. The grey wolves were the only large wild dog the found that particular gene in. They concluded that a number of small domestic dogs evolved from the grey wolves.

The significance of this article is showing were some of our little household pets evolved from the largest wild canines on the planet. Its pretty interesting actually. Small domestic dogs grew from they're complete opposite, large wild dogs.

    Region: Middle East
Title of Article: Iranian Call For ‘New Middle East’
    Source: The Press Association (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5hErO7PGVDvs19D-QRbpvS91C5NrA)
    Publication Date: February 25, 2010

Summery: As the US attempts to break up a thirty year relationship between Syria and Tehran, Iraq’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declares, “The US should pack up and leave the Middle East and stay out of regional affairs.” With boasts of the Arab nations ushering in a new Middle East without Zionists and without colonialists, the US is reluctant to give up their quest to dominate the region. Bashar Assad, the president of Syria, agrees fully with President Ahmadinejad of Iran. In recent months, there have been many high-profile visits to Damascus, accentuating the importance of Syria in the Middle East. Syria has long been considered a sponsor of terrorism, yet President Obama is determined to engage with them. Ahmadinejad’s recent visit has risen tension in the US with Tehran over the country’s nuclear program. The US has reason to believe that Iran is concealing nuclear weapon development in the disguise of a civilian energy program. However, Iran is insistent that all efforts are peaceful.

Significance: Nuclear weapons have always been cause to send civilians cowering under their tables and wishing they still had bomb shelters. The thought of Iran developing WMD makes the fear that much stronger. There are many sides as to how the US should go about business in the Middle East. Some believe that they should be left alone and set out to fend for themselves. Some think it’s the United States’ duty to be in the Middle East and doing what they can to avoid a repeat of 9-11. Some still, don’t care and avoid any talks about the issues. As people become more educated in what’s happening in the Middle East, their opinions change and can cause arguments and debates. Everyone knows something’s happening in the Middle East, yet so few know the real reasons.

    Article- http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/02/25/iran.syria.talks/index.html

Summary: The Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Thursday. As Ahmadinejad said that Iran will always stay behind Syria and that regional bonds stay strong. To the United Stated they did not apriccatte what was going on. The U.S. had a disagreement with in what was happening between Iran and Syria. Iranian President answered back and said that the U.S. has no right to interfere witht the relationship between the two of them. One of the reasons the U.S.is not okay with the relationship because of the incident in Iran and their uranium use. When Iran and Syria got together this made the Israeli President upset. Israeli President went on to say that the middle east problem will be solved in a peaceful way, but the problem is, is that Iran's attempt to take Arab land. And he also said that it is up to Syria to join the Iranian camp of evil and terror or to make peace with Israel. So now the Syrian President and the Isaeli President are goiong to get together and reach a peace agreement.

Signafcants: The signaficants of this article is the ties between the three Middle East countries. We are currently in that area and taken percautions. For the United States we are trying to keep away from Iran because of the understanding of Iran having an extensive amount of uranium which could be used to make a nuclear weapon which they keep denying that they are using it for civilian use. Also with Syria being in the middle of the two countires we don't want another controversy or war between anyone.

Small pet dogs probably originated in the Middle East, a study has revealed.

The study into small dog breeds was published in the open access journal BMC Biology.

The investigation found that the version of the IGF1 gene, mainly responsible for the dogs' small stature, could be traced to the domestication of the Middle Eastern grey wolf.

Melissa Gray, one of the project's lead researchers from the University of California, noted that the gene found in small dogs was closely related to that found in Middle Eastern wolves.

Highlighting the reasons why small dogs would have been attractive to owners, Ms Gray added: "Small size could have been more desirable in more densely packed agricultural societies, in which dogs may have lived partly indoors or in confined outdoor spaces".

Small pet dogs, sometimes referred to as toy dogs, include the Affenpinscher, the Chihuahua, the Shih Tzu, the Pug and the Yorkshire terrier.

Animal Friend’s Insurance , one of the largest independent pet insurers in the UK offer dog insurance, cat insurance and horse insurance to UK residents.

Recently animal researchers have found that some small dog breeds originated in the Middle East. One of the head researchers said, “Small size could have been more desirable in more densely packed agricultural societies, in which dogs may have lived partly indoors or in confined outdoor spaces". The study showed that there were traces of Middle Eastern Grey Wolves in the little dog’s genes. These dogs include the, Affenpinscher, the Chihuahua, the Shih Tzu, the Pug and the Yorkshire terrier. It is very humorous that such a small dog could be related to such a fierce animal that is about 5x its size.
This article is significant because it shows that even though we are very different from the M.E. we do share some similarities in our ancestral ties.

  11. A year ago, during and attack on Gaza a girl was born in a hospital near the bomb sites. People could hear explosions including the mother who could only hope for safety. Since the baby was born premature she spent most of her time, during the attack, in an incubator. Presently she is still sickly. The attack was intended to be on militants but instead killed hundreds of civilians and injuring thousands during this three week attack.

This is what people in the middle east go through daily. They can only hope to return to there families unharmed. This shouldn't have to happen to people who have done nothing wrong and want nothing to do with the war. It is unjust that civilians are killed and injured in bombings and crossfires that just happen to occur near them. Even though troops deserve to return home, it would only cause more termoil.

Ehud Barak, Israel's defense minister, doubts that Iran will bomb his country. Barak feels that Iran should know that there will be consequences if they drop a bomb on Barak's country. The U.S. administration has talked to Israel about not striking Iran because international sanctions could change Iranian behavior. Barak said if the sanctions won't work, what is going to happen to Iran.

The significance of this event is that sanctions would hopefully stop or limit Iran's nuclear weapons. If Iran stops making nuclear weapons, this could be a sign that Iran is headed toward being a peaceful nation.

The president of Iran made fun of U.S policy's. Obama's administration is trying to stop Iran from making nuclear weapons. Iran made an announcement saying they will keep moving forward and not care about how the U.S is trying to stop them. The U.S wants to dominate the nation, but Iran and Syria wont allow them to. They said "instead of interfering in the region's affairs, to pack their things and leave."

The significance of this event is to stop Iran from developing nuclear bombs. The bombs would most likely be used to kill the U.S and there own people in Iran. Iran wants us to leave them be, but were going to stay there until they stop production of nuclear weapons, and corporate with the U.S.

Doral Man Charged in Terror-related Case Obtains Bail

Khaled Safadi is charged of selling a video game system to a Paraguayan mall. He didn't have a criminal background, so they let him out early, but warned him of the consequences. Then two other people and Safadi were facing charges of exporting Playstation 2 and Sony cameras to shoppping centers. They were arrested on February 18. They went to court and Tein, Safadi's lawyer, defended them. They gave false addresses and false fictitious.

The significance of this artical is that they are still trying to figure out the false adresses and fictitious. They are also trying to find here true origin still.

Two members of the US bobsled team, John Napier and Mike Kohn, want to go over to Iraq for a few months to a year. Napier said he is willing to do anything to be able to live in a country like America and represent it in the Olympics.Napier is part of the Army's World Class Athlete program. This means when he is a soldier he represents the US as an ambassador through bobsledding. He would like to go over to Iraq but he knows it isn't where he is best used.Mike Kohn's father was very excited about all of this because he is a military man himself and he wants his son to be one too. They both say they couldn't of made it to the Olympics without the army so they are simply trying to give back.

This significant because we are trying to connect with other countries in new ways. Instead of just through politics we have entered into communications through sports as well. I feel this will be effective because sports a very important to a lot of people. This will help us finish our business in Iraq and get out of there ASAP. It is very noble of these men to help our government talk to the Iraqi people to make negotiations with them to end the violence and war. These are great men and they understand America's need to bring troops home.

With stolen identifications, two men from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, snuck their way into the United States. They were thought to be involved in the killing of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, Hamas Official which occurred on January 19th 2010. There was an investigation and that would lead to the explanation of the men trying to run away. They have not been found in the United States and there is a possibility that they could have fled to a different country already with false paper work. They were convicted and proved guilty of the murder of the Hamas Official in his own room at a hotel.

The significance of this event is that two people that are wanted and charged with murder were able to sneak their way into the US. This means our security is weak and shows others that they can sneak in too. Especially with the war going on right now in Afghanistan, dangerous people could enter our country and commit crimes and harm us. We need to have stronger security and be more careful of foreign passengers, that way we have less of a chance of getting harmed.

Squabbles dogging U.S. ‘big picture’ in Middle East

This article is about Joe Biden confronting Iran internationally, and to talk peace regionally. This visit to Iran it to help restore the west bank and see where the Palestinians and Israelis sit. The U.S. is trying to make Iran a better country for the people living in it. For the people living in Iran now, the times are tough and someone needs to help them. So the U.S. is going over there to restore Iran.

This article is very significant. It is to us because our own people are going over to help when we are already at war near there. Some people from U.S. may think its not our job to help Iran. I think that everyone deserves to have help. Iran is in tough times right now and we are really trying to help.
